Have some days left so took coming Monday and Tuesday off for a long weekend. Not going anywhere, just around the house and maybe visit de Efteling on Monday. We go every year, World of Wonders, usually for our anniversary or a birthday.

The Picnic Wasp

Just back after a lovely autumnal walk with the dog. Fetched some firewood in just now with the sun just setting and suddenly there was this cacophony as three huge flocks of geese flew overhead. Hundreds of birds just visible against the low light of the sky. Back in now and I can hear a couple of smaller formations of stragglers. I think autumn has previously undiscovered depths of thinking for me now.

Made my day yesterday really in a way.

Decided to replace my AV Receiver and 5.1 speakers due to their being 14 years old and I'm surprised the Onkyo receiver has lasted that long as it gets hot enough to barbecue on it  - not that we do, molten fat buggers things up.

With things having moved on in the world since then I've ended up getting a Samsung soundbar with subwoofer and rear speakers. I know it will be considered a backwards step in audiophile ways, but sod that, the Record deck and CD player are for serious music.

I'd decided on a Samsung Q990C, which I could have got for under a grand on Amazon, but they seem to be grey imports at that price and come with non UK plugs from reading reviews.

John Lewis though had it for £1,300 but half price with selected Samsung TVs. Looking at it, there was a 32" Samsung TV for £499 included in the deal, now my PC monitor is over 20 years old (If it's not broke don't chuck it) so a replacement would be nice, so that's Soundbar and TV for £1,150, not a bad deal IMHO.

The soundbar does Dolby Atmos and from the Atmos disc I've played it does a bloody good job, better than the 5.1 it had to revert to on my old system.

Even Mrs S is happy as there are now fewer cables running round the room and the TV stand has come off the bricks we'd wedged under it to accomadate the Onkyo...

I have the upper-mid-range Samsung soundbar that's a couple of models down from yours Mr Sims and it's damn good - I reckon you've made an excellent choice. :)

Attended the Witney Remembrance Day parade and service. Lovely service and the light rain seemed perfectly appropriate for such a sombre event. Always humbled.

Delighted to see the left-wing activist / pseudo-journalist Krishnan Guru-Murthy crash out of Strictly. Utterly loathsome, repellent little man.

Yesterday went to the theatre to see I'm Sorry Prime Minister I can't quite remember a lovely and very funny follow on from Yes Prime Minister. Jim Hacker and Sir Humphrey Appleby are both now in their 80s and suffering all the problems of old age and the trying to stop everyone pushing them off what little of the stage is left to them.
Very funny and just as well written as Yes Prime Minister. Well worth seeing if it comes your way.

General election day today. As much as I despise the weeks leading into this, I really do like this day. Politicians are finally quiet and we, the voter, get to say what we want.

Why is 'populist' used pejoratively?

Too political too respond here, but I am not happy that's all I can say.

Yes, not long. Although IMO that's when the 'hard yards' begin
