Maybe in his world, but I doubt music can be replaced by AI. Nick Cave certainly thinks so:

So who's right? The musician or a DJ?

I had an equivalent thought this morning, when I read a response that someone had got out of ChatGPT after asking it to debug a C program, might write about that in the AI thread.

Thing is - Nick Cave only assessed the output from a general purpose language model intended only to produce lyrics as a demonstration. This technology is in its infancy, in fact the version of ChatGPT that's available for use now is only a preview, not the finished article.

Imagine what tech like that will be able to do in five years' time, or fifty.

It's comforting to think that really inspirational, affecting, emotional music could only be created by humans - but IMO it's probably not true.

It's all just heading towards humans* becoming lazier and lazier and having to think and do less. I sometimes think of that movie WALL-E, where the remaining humans on the space ship are just slobbing in chairs whilst everything is done for them by machines.

*except Nick Cave   ;D
