BBC News reports that Madonna has performed a gig in Rio de Janeiro, apparently attended by over 1 million people, describing her as "The Queen of Pop".

Nah. That's Lady Gaga nowadays isn't it?

Besides, the gig was free, which the ever-vigilantly accurate BBC somehow forgot to mention. ::)

Started nice and sunny, reminded us of summer. Normal service resumed at 5:30pm. More rain.

Bugger. Looks like we've dropped lucky as we've had zero rain for a few days now - just in time for our annual village Scarecrow Weekend!  Which has been exceptionally good this year, I have to say. :)

Keeping the food theme, we'll be treated to a sumptuous meal today from the little un's Cypriot grandma as it's Greek Easter - and it's nice to celebrate the resurrection of Zeus. ;)

A wee bit blustery in exposed areas, but other than that - rather glorious! 8)

Warm-ish again but mostly cloudy today - looked like it could rain at any time but hasn't all day.

Both can be in the wrong at the same time (e.g. a recent incident involving a taxi doing the rounds); never known him to admit any culpability though.

Jeremy Vine. On his show they've replayed the footage about a dozen times of yesterday's machete-wielding nutter being tasered.  Rightly, great praise is being given to the female police officer who deployed her taser while walking head on straight toward the perpetrator; what is being bizarrely overlooked is the other taser clearly activated from the side beforehand by a different officer just out of shot.

But this is typical of Vine being ineptly behind the curve on pretty much everything.

Babylon

Damien Chazelle's 3-hour epic following the fortunes of those at either side of the camera as silent movies give way to "talkies".

Margot Robbie was deservedly Oscar-nominated starring alongside Brad Pitt and Diego Calva, who are also both very good indeed in their co-leading roles.

Yes it's bombastic and bloated, which is probably the point, as are the graphic depictions of debauchery that are not for the weak of stomach.  There's a Pulp Fiction-esque mischievousness in some of the set pieces, though the tone here is darker than anything Tarantino has done.

This had mixed reviews at the time of release, though it's worth seeing if you have a few spare hours.
