2 incredible PJ Harvey gigs in Dublin this weekend - absolutely one of the all time great artists.

We've just got our house completely back to normal at last. Back in May we took back our rented house after the tenant died. The rented house was in an appalling state: filthy, nicotine dripping of the walls and doors (no smoking was allowed on the tenancy), pet damage all over (no pets allowed on the tenancy) and all the large items were left behind by his daughter when she cleared it; the garden was in a horrendous state too as well as damage throughout the house - we used a letting agent as well, useless gits. So, you can imagine how pissed off my wife and I were when we eventually took the house back and when we got home that day we found that we'd had a water leak from the water storage tank upstairs. The water had soaked out on to the carpet in our bedroom and come through the lounge ceiling below. To find where the leak was we had to rip out some fitted bedroom furniture and smash a hole at the back of the airing cupboard - that's when we found out it was the tank causing the leak. The system had to be drained so we had no hot water for a few weeks. Anyway this is what we've been through since then and had to be done in order:

1. Boiler upgraded from a thermal store system to combi boiler. This took 2 weeks due to the changes required.
2. The old boiler in the kitchen - we had to get kitchen fitters to remove the boxing in units and cupboards to get access.
3. The old boiler was removed - the wall where the flue had gone through was bricked up outside and walls inside replastered.
4. Kitchen cupboards refitted.
5. Lounge/dining room ceilings replastered. Hole in bedroom wall replastered.
6. Painted bedroom wall
7. We got 3 quotes for fitted wardrobes but had to wait until August before we could get them installed.
8. New fitted wardrobes eventually fitted
9. New bedroom carpet fitted
8. Lounge/dining ceilings painted
9. Ceiling lights reinstated - this was today.

All this whilst we were trying to sort out our other house, which was a wreck (and a total other story, but that's almost sorted now too). Because we did a lot more than required the insurance would only pay for repairs so from them we got about a quarter of what it's cost us in total. Anyway all done now - yay.

Yes, cheers. We did actually put the heating on today to test it out and it was fine. Of course normally I would never have any heating on before October lol.

Rubbed my right eye when I woke up this morning and two contact lenses came out (yes, out of the same eye). I was sure that one of them was still in there because I put it in yesterday, it seemed to disappear off my pupil but it definitely didn't come out. And I had a suspicion, though I'd managed to convince myself it wasn't true, that a lens I put in there about ten days ago was still in there.

The daily disposable ones are extremely flimsy and they can fold up and hide under your eyelid. If that happens it's very hard to get them out, you have to wait for them to work themselves out. Fortunately they aren't even uncomfortable most of the time.

When they go around the back of my eye the easiest way to get them out is to either pull your upper eyelid over the bottom eyelid or pullback the corner of your eyes line we used to do as kids when pretending to be ming the merciless...

Had lenses on again today. I counted them all in - and I counted them all out.

Against all the received wisdom and advice, I reused some daily disposable contact lenses. Seemed to go OK. Only wanted them in for a couple of hours anyway.

Working from home in te mancave aka the attic. When I need some time away from the screen I usually throw a few legs of darts, takes my mind of things. Managed a 10 darter today, nice

After 3 months, the best bar in Witney, 'Drummers', has reopened today as 'The Crafty Pint'.
Nice to quaff a few ales there tonight with Mr Pudney of this parish. A good day indeed

My beard trimmer died so I bought a special Remington Manchester United limited edition one from Amazon.



To be honest I only bought it because it was half price. I would have bought it if it was a Tottenham or Aston Villa one.
