Off to stay with friends at the weekend, based around seeing Steve Hackett in Hastings on Saturday. Bonus is a gig in a local pub venue by Man on the Friday. Haven't actually checked to see how many, if any, original members are still in the band but should be interesting :)

Managed to see the An225 on her last visit to Brize. Annoyingly there were so many folk at the end of the runway she was expected to land at that they came in the other end, where 2 blokes and a flock of sheep watched her land  ::)

Managed to catch her taking off though!

USAF B-52H Stratofortress landing at RAF Fairford a week or so ago. Despite living fairly close by this was the first time I had been down during a Bomber Deployment. We get them flying over our house in Witney as they turn on to approach to Fairford but, seeing and hearing this beast just feet away was quite something!

Interestingly, this particular one had been mothballed for many years but was recalled, rebuilt and recommissioned after another aircraft was lost in a fire. Nicknamed 'Wise Guy' she is 60 years old this year!

Agreed, fantastic photos. Especially that second one, so much going on there!

The answer is, superb! Absolutely fantastic gig and new singer, Alberto Bravin (formerly of PFM) absolutely nailed it.

Yep, a real tragedy and a great loss. I loved David's voice and his lyric writing and I wasn't sure if they would carry on to be honest, but glad they have decided to continue.

Next 'big' gig for us is Big Big Train at Aylesbury. Lou will be trying out her new powered wheelchair so anyone else going, be warned!

Apologies for being so late on this James but my condolences on the loss of your Mum. Your regrets over seeing her in recent times resonate very strongly with me, I was a terrible son for the last few months of my mothers life, though I knew that she didn't have long left with us. In the end I did see her in the hospice, the night before she died, I have that I guess...

Anyway, cherish the many memories you have, she'll always be there for you.

Elton John - Madman Across The Water

New 2cd set, not had the chance to crank it up yet (3 month old Granddaughter currently resident!) but, the early, live version of 'Indian Sunset' is just superb. I still have this album on original LP but nothing decent to play it on so pleased to pick this up though may now have to re-investigate the early catalogue!

Only saw them the once, on the Union Tour (so I got several versions of the band all at the same time!) and really enjoyed it but, you'll gather from that I'm not the biggest fan. Have seen several comments from last nights show at the RAH which were all very positive? Not for me though.

As far as Hackett goes he's very honest about his approach re Genesis and undoubtedly delivers exactly what it says on the tin, plus plenty of his own stuff of course. Terrific live and will be seeing him later in the year for the upteenth time down in Hastings.

Actually, no I haven't. It's on my 'to do' list mind you...

Just back from a couple of days in Ieper which included a visit to a place called Pond Farm where there just happened to be a replica MK IV Tank. 43 tonnes and built using the original blueprints and powered by a JCB engine (I think). An impressive beast!

Having just spotted this section I thought I'd beg your indulgence as I continue my hunt for a decent shot of a Red Kite. They're pretty common around these 'ere parts so I get plenty of practice! Anyways, this is one from a couple of days ago, passing over the back garden...small crop and sharpened up a teeny bit.

Quite a varied mix and very interesting to see Bauhaus and Aphrodite's Child in the top 10.

Having listened to him last week in Oxford I found myself exploring some of the bands/artists he mentioned, like The Cocteau Twins and Aphex Twin. Has always dismissed the former as Alt bollox and never heard the latter before!
