Gutted! A more regularly used start word would have taken me almost straight there. The irony of the solution too. My dogs have turned part of the garden into a quagmire recently.

I was fortunate in that my most frequently-used starting word (TRAIN) had four of the solution letters in the right order. So a possible solution presented itself immediately.

Shall we say that a complete failure is an 8? They aren't common fortunately but they'd need to be counted somehow. A 7 presumes that you'd get it on the next go which is not necessarily true.

Of course it's just a bit of fun and perhaps I'm overthinking it.

So more overthinking then . . .

Perhaps score in reverse order? 6 points for getting it in one (no extra points - as that is just luck really), and 1 point for getting it on the 6th attempt.

Then if you fail completely, you get 0.

So today you score 5, I score 4 and The Picnic Wasp gets 3.
