I gave up eventually. Spent about three hours on it, on and off. Had to break hard mode for the fourth word, then when I still couldn't see it I just abandoned it.

So: by default, Wordle will allow you to try words that can't be correct, based on the previous clues. For example today, I deployed MANIA despite knowing that the second letter wasn't an A, from the feedback from my second word:



However although it can be useful, I don't like to play in that mode. I prefer to try only words that are potential solutions, ie "hard mode". You can enforce this in the settings (click the cog icon)
