I know there's a few clever buggers here and rather than take a punt on something I don't fully understand I thought somebody may be able to help.

I am having a new boiler fitted with Hive (controllable thermostat etc). However it connects to my Sky router by Ethernet but I have no Ethernet ports left spare. Do I buy some form of chaingang adapter?

It looks like we are in for a rough ride over the next 12 months. I frequent Tesco on an almost daily basis and I think my costs have risen by 30%. Some of the rises are very sneaky in my opinion, for example low cost articles have had big price increases but Gin for example seems to have stayed the same (phew). My gas/electric payments have risen to £280/m (2-4 people living in the house depending if my daughters are staying with their boyfriends). For sure I will be using my woodburner more this winter but this isn't good for the environment.

I am in a relatively lucky position but for others the ramifications are terrible.

As we are all aware we need to be taking steps to reduce climate change/damage but what if anything are we doing about it on a day to day basis?

In my case not much really

Turn off lights wherever possible.
Recycle whatever I can via my bin scheme.
Use bag for life for shopping.
Trying to reduce waste in food and packaging purchased.

Not got an electric car (too expensive), not on any special renewable energy tariff.


Feel I'm not really doing enough in the scheme of things.

Just cooked a stir fry with 3 different types of mushroom, peppers, broccoli etc. Very nice and certainly didn't miss any meat. I think there is a fair bit of salt hidden in the dark and light soy sauces used though.

I did buy some prawn crackers to serve alongside as well so animals may have died.
